Support Apologia Mission

Davis Carman|March 4, 2025

Many people would say that the modern-day homeschooling movement in the U.S. began sometime in the 1970s. In the next decade, state and national organizations were founded, including the Home School Legal Defense Association in 1983. When Rachael and I began our homeschool journey in 1996, the movement was still in its infancy. Fast forward thirty years. Today, there are twice as many students in a homeschool setting as in a private school. Not only have the sheer numbers grown, but the availability of support systems and high-quality curricula is just as impressive.

What does the homeschooling movement look like in countries outside the United States? I’ve spoken at homeschool conferences in eight foreign countries, which has been insightful. Each has its own unique culture, challenges, and opportunities. It’s exciting to see what God is doing in each country to fan the flame of enthusiasm, to support the local homeschooling families, to get good laws on the books, and to identify leaders to champion the cause. Yet when the dust settles, here’s my personal assessment of how I would describe the homeschool movement outside of America: The trend is up. There is an excitement in the air, but the international homeschool movement is currently where the U.S. was thirty years ago.

If it’s safe to assume that homeschooling in other countries is heading in a similar direction as it did in America thirty years ago, then there is potential for these countries to be better prepared for success. There’s nothing quite like learning from others’ failures and/or victories. This makes me optimistic that homeschooling in other countries will continue to grow and succeed. But just like here in the 1980s and 1990s, there will be battles to face, challenges to overcome, and a need for families and leaders to pray and rely on God for the results.

I want to see the homeschooling movement thrive in both the U.S. and abroad. Families are blessed in so many ways no matter their latitude or longitude. That’s why we want to support homeschooling all across the globe.

Apologia Mission

Apologia Mission is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is the charitable arm of Apologia Educational Ministries, whose main purpose is to publish creation-based science, math, and Bible curricula for homeschooling families.

Apologia Mission is our way of giving back. It exists to support the homeschooling community at large. This includes U.S. military families, missionaries, and the international homeschooling population.

Support for Homeschool Graduates in America

Homeschool graduates in the U.S. have received scholarships to the Impact 360 Fellows gap year program in Pine Mountain, GA. We’ve also partnered with NCHE (North Carolinians for Home Education) to award scholarships to homeschool graduates from North Carolina who plan to pursue careers in missions or ministry.

We should be thankful for the many wonderful resources we enjoy in America and seek to share them with others.

Because of your help, we’ve also been able to provide curricula to families in the U.S. that have suffered loss due to natural disasters, loss of jobs, or the loss of a loved one.

Support for Military and Missionary Families

We are so thankful for the military and missionary families who are willing and ready to uproot themselves to go wherever they are sent. Discounts help offset the shipping costs of curriculum and supplies for military and missionary families. Your support allows us to provide curricula, resources, and encouragement to help families homeschool successfully.

When you support a missionary and military family’s homeschool, you help them thrive in the work that God has them doing. Apologia is proud to support those serving in the military, on the mission field, and in full-time ministry with a 40% discount.

Support for the International Homeschool Community

In the United States, the homeschool experience includes high-quality curriculua, state and regional conferences with dynamic speakers, encouragement from friends and family, and social networking through local co-ops and support organizations. But what does the journey look like for homeschool families living abroad? Think of the military family serving in Europe, the missionary family working in Africa, or the many families of faith struggling with government opposition in Asia.

Homeschooling can be challenging. The home education movement in many countries is in its early years, but it is vibrant, serious, encouraging, and hope-filled. Help us invest in the flourishing of homeschooling worldwide for the glory of God.

Through the years, we’ve helped families in many countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, Haiti, Hungary, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and more.

You can’t always travel overseas to lend a hand, but you can help us send curricula and other resources! Many international families do not have access to the resources needed to homeschool successfully. When you give, you help homeschooling families flourish everywhere.
