8th Grade Curriculum Bundle
As your homeschooled student approaches high school, it’s important that they are set up for success in their higher education years. That is why Apologia has some fantastic offerings to prepare your students for the more difficult material that awaits them in high school.
8th graders following Apologia’s suggested curriculum path will go through Exploring Creation with Physical Science and Jesus iWitness. But we also offer courses in several other core subjects for this grade level through Apologia Live Classes, including math, history, English, and foreign languages. Apologia Live Classes provide dynamic, interactive lessons led by qualified instructors without requiring parent grading or instruction. With Apologia, your student’s 8th grade curriculum can also include Pre-Algebra (a recorded Apologia Live Class), English Grammar: God’s Gift of the Written Word, and Latin I or Spanish I. With this combination of courses, your students will learn about the scientific study of nonliving things and pre-algebra, develop a faith defense, sharpen their English grammar skills, and begin the foundations of learning a foreign language.
8th Grade Curriculum: Science
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. –Romans 1:20
Exploring Creation with Physical Science helps prepare your student as he or she approaches the more rigorous high school science courses by introducing key concepts early on. Physical Science is the study of nonliving things, so they will be learning the foundational concepts of scientific branches such as chemistry, physics, Earth science, and astronomy.
This course is offered in a variety of ways:
- Physical Textbook/Student Notebook – This option involves a physical textbook and a Student Notebook. It’s a great option for reading/writing learners.
- Self-Paced Course – This digital option is great for students who prefer to work on the computer and may be visual or auditory learners. There is a digital copy of the textbook, audiobook, video lessons, digital, auto-graded tests, and a physical copy of the Student Notebook.
- Apologia Live Class – This option is great for social learners as your student will be in a live online class environment with other students worldwide. Students will need to have the curriculum to work on their own but will meet once a week for a lecture to cover the material and be able to ask questions. They will also submit assignments for grading and feedback from our qualified instructors.
📖 Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Physical Science, 4th Edition, will lead students to appreciate, understand, and grasp the wonders of God’s creation while exploring chemistry, physics, earth science, and scientific research. Students will learn about atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, reactions, motion, forces, energy, waves, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, Earth’s structure, weather, and the atmosphere.
8th Grade Curriculum: Mathematics
Pre-Algebra is the standard math course for students entering 8th grade. Are you nervous about teaching math to your students? Maybe you struggled with math yourself. Enter Apologia Live Classes! Your student can take this course under the instruction of our qualified instructor. She will explain the course material, manually grade tests, and provide feedback.
💻 Apologia’s Live Class: Pre-Algebra, led by Katie Pennington, eases the transition from arithmetic to algebra and illustrates how mathematics can be used to manage God’s creation for His glory. Students will develop proficiency in arithmetic operations, including positive and negative numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents, and will also be introduced to geometry, area and volume, and polynomials.
8th Grade Curriculum: Worldview
Romans 12:2 says, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
The second book in the iWitness series, Resurrection iWitness, will help your student begin developing a defense of their faith.
📖 Resurrection iWitness takes you on a journey through the historical facts and theories and why only the biblical story of the resurrection can account for all the agreed-upon facts. So, come to the empty tomb of Jesus and sort through the evidence as you do the investigation.
8th Grade Curriculum: English & Literature
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17
As students prepare to enter the more rigorous high school years, solidifying their understanding of grammar is very helpful. Writing is an essential skill regardless of your student’s field or path. This class will set them up for success as they enter a world of writing lab reports, research papers, and college admissions essays.
💻Apologia’s Live Class: English Grammar: God’s Gift of the Written Word teaches students the skills in basic grammar by surveying significant concepts of the English language, such as punctuation, formatting, and traditional sentence diagramming (which trains students to analyze any sentence’s purpose and structure quickly). Students will use excerpts from Scripture and great English literature to provide meaningful examples and exercises.
8th Grade Curriculum: Foreign Language
There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning. –1 Corinthians 14:10
Studying a foreign language is often a requirement in higher education. It’s a skill that provides an understanding of the foundations of words. But beyond the benefits of SAT prep, this skill opens up a new world for your student to connect with those from other cultures. When your student learns another language, they have the ability to share the Gospel around the globe.
💻Apologia’s Live Class: Latin I is designed to teach students basic Latin grammar. While learning basic grammar, students will gradually learn to read classic Latin texts.

💻Apologia’s Live Class: Spanish I teaches students the foundations of the Spanish language while gaining the incredible ability to share the Gospel in Spanish. Imagine the impact you can make by connecting with people from diverse Spanish-speaking backgrounds. Students will put their newly developed skills to the test through Scripture memory and engaging conversational assignments with language partners. Enroll now and equip your student with the tools to communicate, connect, and inspire through the beauty of the Spanish language.
